Accessibility

Visit the Accessibility Services page.

Borrowing Materials

A valid UConn ID is required to borrow Reserve and Circulating materials. Additional information concerning loan periods and renewals is available at the Libraries’ Circulation Policies.

Computer Use Policy

Priority for use of desktop computers is given to UConn students, faculty, and staff, who must log on using a NetID. Community and Public Users may be limited to 30 minutes during peak use and may be asked to relinquish the public access computer.

The Avery Point Library endorses the Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read statement of the American Library Association. Patrons must abide by the President´s Policy on Harassment that “forbids harassment that has the effect of interfering with an individual’s performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment.” Displaying hate literature or pornography constitutes such harassment and will not be tolerated.

All computer users must abide by the University’s Policies and the Libraries’ Work Station Policy.

Confidentiality

Under Connecticut law, library circulation records may not be divulged except by court order. This means we cannot tell anyone who has a particular item checked out. We will be glad to recall material from another patron if requested by a member of the University of Connecticut community, and individuals also may request an Interlibrary Loan copy if our copy has been checked out.

Defacing Library Property

Unauthorized removal, mutilation, defacement, or marking of library property, materials or equipment is prohibited. The intentional damaging of library materials is a misdemeanor punishable by law and will be reported to Campus Police.

Food and Beverage Policy

Food and drink are allowed in the library. Please properly dispose of all trash and promptly report any spills to the library services desk.

Group Study and Collaboration Rooms

The library has a variety of study area options. Individual study carrels and group tables are located on both floors of the library. Study rooms are available to UConn students with a valid ID on a first come, first served basis. Avery Point Library study rooms can be booked from our online reservation system (reservations can be made up to 3 days in advance). The study rooms are all equipped with wireless access and whiteboards, and some have large monitors. Use may be limited to three hours to accommodate demand. Personal items left unattended in a study room may be removed by library staff and brought to the Lost & Found at the library services desk.

Study room keys should be picked up and returned at the library services desk and remain inside the library. Due to the heavy demands of the study rooms by our student population, priority is given to UConn students. UConn faculty and staff may reserve study rooms by contacting the library director.

Check Study Room Availability online.

Laptops

Wireless access for personal laptops is available throughout the Avery Point campus to UConn students, faculty and staff by using their NetID and the UConn-Secure network. Public users who require internet access from their personal laptops will use the UConn-Guest network. Laptop and notebook computers may not be plugged into or attached to any library computing or printing hardware.

In addition, the library lends out laptops to UConn students according to the current Technology Services policy.

Library Databases Policy

Library Security

The Library has no facilities for secure storage of personal property and assumes no responsibility for personal property lost or stolen on library premises. Never leave personal property unattended in the Library.

Noise

The University of Connecticut Libraries is committed to providing an environment that is conducive to study as well as welcoming to all users. Patrons should respect the rights of others by keeping noise to appropriate levels for each floor, with the second floor designated as the Quiet Area. Please be considerate of those studying around you.

Printing & Scanning

The printer and scanner are located on the first floor of the library. Wireless printing is available through the Wepa Print app. Visit the website and follow the instructions to install Wepa Print on your laptop or phone.

Pay for black-and-white or color prints with a UConn ID using Husky Bucks or with funds in a Wepa account. Scanning is available free of charge. Please adhere to Copyright laws.

Wepa Print Instructions for Non-UConn Users

Problems & Suggestions

Problems, repair requests, and suggestions should be reported promptly to the library services desk or by contacting the library director.

Public Use

Computer stations and equipment are intended to support academic research by UConn students, faculty, staff, and authorized visitors. While UConn is contractually bound to limit access to databases and e-resources to current UConn students, faculty, and staff, one library computer is designated for public access to databases. Wireless internet access is available to visitors on the UConn-Guest network. Members of the public may use the seating area on the first floor. The library staff will gladly address questions about the collection and retrieve items in the stack areas.

Reference Assistance

Reference Librarians are available to assist students and faculty in research. Librarians will also assist you with the use of library databases, Interlibrary Services, locating materials, and resolving issues related to overdue materials and fines. Ask a Librarian Live lets you ask questions and get answers in real time from actual librarians.

Reshelving

Patrons are asked not reshelve materials after use. Books left on carrels and tables are routinely shelved by library staff.
