Future of Journals

The Future of Journals Project

The Future of Journals project began in January 2021 to address the combination of increasing costs of “Big Deal” journal bundling packages imposed by academic journal publishers and our shrinking state budget. By phasing out renewals of journal packages and phasing in an article delivery system that provides materials just in time instead of just in case, we have been able to provide articles on an individual basis at the same speed and convenience without major impact on the resources and services our faculty and students rely on. As a result, we are transitioning away from the Future of Journals Project to the Future of Collections to highlight our more sustainable and nimble approach for providing access to scholarly information.

We remain committed to supporting sustainable scholarship by implementing alternative means of accessing scholarly information, providing access at the point of need instead of just in case.
